Returning for her second season in the WNBA, Caitlin Clark picked up right where she left off. The reigning Rookie of the Year helped lead the Indiana Fever to a 93-58 victory over the Chicago Sky, finishing with 20 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds.
Clark picked up her 10th rebound with 2:22 left in the fourth quarter, marking the third triple-double of her WNBA career. This cashed the +1300 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook for Clark to tally a triple-double. The Iowa product already ranks third all-time in triple-doubles in WNBA history following today’s effort.
In addition to the offensive output, Clark added a career-high four blocks and two steals. She shot 6-for-13 from the field and 3-for-6 from beyond the three-point arc while connecting on all four of her free throws. The Fever star was also whistled for a flagrant foul on Angel Reese, preventing her from taking a free lay-up following an offensive board.
Clark downplayed the foul on the broadcast during a mid-quarter interview, telling Holly Rowe, “It’s just a good take foul. Either Angel gets wide open two points or we send them to the free throw line. Nothing malicious about it. It’s just a good take foul. Every basketball player knows that.”
Reese finished with 12 points, 17 rebounds and five turnovers in the Chicago Sky’s season opener. She was the team’s leading scorer on the day.
After going 20-20 last season and qualifying for the playoffs for the first time since 2016, Indiana made some notable offseason changes to catapult this team into true contention. Six-time All-Star and two-time champion DeWanna Bonner was a key addition and climbed to third all-time in WNBA scoring history by passing Tina Thompson today.
The Fever hold -8000 odds to make the playoffs and are tied for third in championship odds at +370 on DraftKings Sportsbook. Clark is the favorite to win MVP at +210, after finishing in fourth as a rookie.
