After a busy weekend of baseball, there are 11 games across today’s Monday Night slate. The Milwaukee Brewers and Cleveland Guardians will kick things off in the lone matchup beginning at 6:10 p.m. ET, building out to the final game starting at 9:45 p.m. ET between the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Francisco Giants. This article will look at my top Pick6 plays for today’s action, 5/12/25. You simply choose whether each set statistic will be more or less than the set number. With the stage set, here are my favorite picks on the MLB slate.
Riley Greene More Than 0.5 Runs Batted In
The Detroit Tigers will face the Boston Red Sox tonight with Tanner Houck on the mound. It has been a brutal start to the season for Houck, who enters tonight with a 6.10 ERA and a career-low 17.5% strikeout rate. He has been especially vulnerable against left-handed hitters, allowing a .348 batting average, .596 slugging and 2.57 home runs per nine innings. Houck has allowed as many as 12 runs in a game already this season.
Enter Riley Greene, who has had success against right-handed pitchers this season and in his career. This season, he is slashing .274/.313/.538 against right-handed pitchers with eight home runs and 17 RBIs. Greene has tallied 22 RBIs overall, which is the second-most on the team. Kerry Carpenter has hit the ball well in front of him and has also had success against righties. Look for this to provide the path to him tallying another RBI tonight. Greene has notched a hit in two straight games entering tonight, so look for him to add to his 22 RBIs with the favorable matchup on the mound.
Trea Turner More Than 1.5 Total Bases
After an ugly start to his tenure in Philadelphia, Trea Turner has settled in and looks primed for his best season with the team yet. While his power numbers have dipped, Turner has been one of the best contact hitters in the league, especially as of late. On the season, he is slashing .310/.371/.394. Last night’s victory over the Guardians snapped a five-game streak of recording two hits in each game. He has tallied at least one hit in 14 of the past 16 games. Over this time, he is slashing .380/.397/.465. Turner has tallied more than 1.5 total bases in nine of his past 13.
In addition, the three-time All-Star has hit the ball much better when playing at home and when facing left-handed pitching. He is hitting .291 against right-handed pitchers compared to .356 against lefties, as well as .262 on the road and .366 at home. The Phillies will take on left-handed Matthew Liberatore at home tonight in a beautiful 80-degree day in Philadelphia. All this spells out the perfect conditions for Turner to keep his hot streak going and improve his strong start to the season. Look for him to tally more than 1.5 total bases tonight.
David Peterson More Than 5.5 Strikeouts Thrown
David Peterson will be on the mound for the New York Mets tonight as he prepares to make his eighth start of the season. The left-hander is off to a solid start, posting a 3.05 ERA and striking out 36 hitters across his first 38.1 innings pitched.
The Mets will take on the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight and the 14-27 record they carry with them. Less than a week removed from firing their manager and with Paul Skenes on the mound, the Pirates are intent on turning things around. But their struggles against left-handed pitchers have been one of the notable causes for concern. Pittsburgh is producing the third-worst strikeout rate when facing lefties this season at 26.3%. Peterson has tallied more than 5.5 strikeouts in two of his past four games while the Pirates struck out a combined 32 times in the past three games against the Braves. Look for Peterson to build off his strong start and sit down at least six Pittsburgh batters tonight.
Kyle Tucker More Than 1.5 Total Bases
It has been a rough start to the season for Cal Quantrill, who will be on the mound for the Marlins as they face the Chicago Cubs tonight. He is posting a 7.11 ERA, which ranks 125th out of the 128 pitchers with over 30 innings pitched on the season. He is allowing a .328 opposing batting average, which ranks 126th among those same qualified pitchers.
Tucker has also had success against Quantrill in his career, going 3-for-4 with one home run. The Cubs’ star has not needed much help from a matchup perspective, as he is off to a stellar season overall. Tucker is slashing .269/.379/.531 with 10 home runs, 10 extra-base hits and 32 RBIs. He has recorded more than 1.5 total bases in six of the past 10 games and has just about the ideal matchup to continue adding to this. Count on Tucker to log more than 1.5 total bases again tonight.
Seiya Suzuki More Than 0.5 Runs Batted In
Seiya Suzuki will also benefit from the significant struggles of Cal Quantrill on the mound. He is allowing a .672 slugging percentage against right-handed hitters and 2.13 home runs per nine innings. In addition, if Quantrill is chased from this game early, Miami has the second-worst bullpen ERA in the National League at 5.05.
Suzuki will continue batting third for the Cubs, but Ian Happ is set to miss his third straight game, which has pushed Pete Crow-Armstrong into the leadoff spot. PCA has logged a hit in eight of his last nine games, while Tucker leads the team in on-base percentage. Expect this to pave the way for Suzuki to see some clean RBI opportunities as he enters with 32 already on the season. He is producing a 15.4% barrel rate and 43.3% fly-ball rate on the season. Look for Suzuki to benefit from the struggling Marlins’ pitching staff and drive in a run tonight.
Fernando Tatis Jr. More Than 1.5 Total Bases
It has been a rocky past few seasons for Fernando Tatis Jr. due to injuries and suspension, but he is back to looking like one of the best baseball players in the MLB. Entering tonight, he ranks fourth in the MLB in batting average, sixth in hits, eighth in home runs and ninth in total bases. Tatis Jr. enters tonight’s game on a five-game hitting streak with 11 total bases over this span, or 2.2 total bases per game.
The Padres will be facing the Angels tonight with Yusei Kikuchi on the mound. He is posting a 3.83 ERA on the season but has allowed seven earned runs over his past three starts. Tatis Jr. is 2-for-8 against Kikuchi in his career, with the 33-year-old struggling against right-handed hitters overall. Right-handed hitters have produced a .853 OPS compared to lefties at just .395. Tatis Jr. does not need much help from a matchup standpoint based on how he is seeing the ball lately, so look for him to keep his hot streak going by producing more than 1.5 total bases.
