Nothing says Mother’s Day like a full slate of MLB baseball, and the league delivered with this today. 15 games of MLB action will be taking place across the Sunday slate. The Chicago Cubs and New York Mets kicked off the day with action throughout the afternoon, building out to the Sunday Night Baseball matchup between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Cleveland Guardians. This article will look at my top Pick6 plays for today’s action, 5/11/25. You simply choose whether each set statistic will be more or less than the set number. With the stage set, here are my favorite picks on the MLB slate.
Fernando Tatis Jr. More Than 2.5 Total Bases
There are not very many players hitting the ball better than Fernando Tatis of late. Confidence should be high for the Padres’ star and the rest of the team following a monstrous 21-0 victory over the Rockies last night. The outlook for Colorado does not improve much as they enter with a 6-33 record and German Marquez on the mound. Marquez is 0-6 in his seven starts this season with a 9.90 ERA. He has not allowed fewer than five hits or four runs since his first start of the season.
Marquez gave up two home runs the last time he took the mound, and Tatis Jr has a strong chance of clearing more than 2.5 total bases with just one swing. He throws the sinker at a 29.2% rate and his four-seam fastball at a 28.3%. Tatis is seventh in the NL in home runs with nine on the season and is slashing .322/.391/.559. He is also slugging .560 against sinkers and a .436 average, .718 slugging percentage, and 67.7% hard hit rate against four-seamers.
Tatis has tallied more than 2.5 total bases in two of the past four games. Look for him to take advantage of the favorable matchup and tally at least three bags today.
Paul Goldschmidt More Than 0.5 RBIs
Paul Goldschmidt is coming off the worst offensive season of his 15-year career, but has rebounded in a Yankees uniform. The former MVP and seven-time All-Star is slashing .340/.391/.476 with four home runs and eight doubles. He has produced 18 RBIs and will continue to see plenty of pitches with so many big names performing in the Yankees’ lineup protecting him.
Luis Servino will be on the mound for the Athletics today. Goldschmidt is 1-for-2 against Severino in his career with a home run and a walk. All four home runs that Severino has allowed this season have come against right-handed hitters. There will also be favorable conditions out in California, with the wind expected to be blowing out at 13 miles per hour and temperatures in the mid-70s. Goldschmidt has a solid chance of putting one over the fence, but with him batting behind Aaron Judge and Cody Bellinger, it may only take a single or double to drive in a teammate. Look for Goldschmidt to add to his RBI total tonight and capitalize on the solid matchup.
Bo Bichette More Than 1.5 Hits
Bo Bichette has led the American League in hits twice already in his seven-year career and is bouncing back from his disappointing and injury-riddled year last season. He has tallied 48 hits in his first 39 games this season, slashing .287/.337/.395.
Bichette enters this game amid a four-game hitting streak with six hits, five walks, and an OPS of 1.149 across this time. He has had success against the Mariners’ pitching staff, recording a pair of hits in each game of this series with three additional walks. Bryce Miller is on the mound, posting a 4.15 ERA across his first 43.2 innings pitched. Bichette is hitting .300 against right-handed pitchers with a .738 OPS this season. He also ranks in the 93rd percentile in the MLB with a .311 expected batting average. Look for his production to continue catching up to the metrics and extend his two-hit streak for the third game in this series.
Shohei Ohtani More Than 0.5 Home Runs
Shohei Ohtani has tallied an NL-leading 12 home runs and has a prime chance to add to this tonight. Zac Gallen will be on the mound for the Diamondbacks and has given up six home runs on the season. Gallen primarily relies on his four-seam fastball, which he throws 48% of the time.
Ohtani bashed a .680 xSLG and 65.3% hard hit rate against four-seamers last season and has taken it up another level this year. He is posting a .880 xSLG and 73.9% hard hit rate with 28 home runs produced against this pitch across the past two years. It takes just one slip-up for Ohtani to punish a pitcher, and Gallen is vulnerable to this. He has allowed three home runs over his past two games, and look for the Dodgers star to add to this total tonight.
Trea Turner More Than 1.5 Total Bases
It was a rocky start to Trea Turner’s tenure in Philadelphia, but he has been tearing the cover off the ball of late. He has tallied two hits in five straight games and seven of the past nine. Across his past 12 games, Turner is slashing .453/.473/.566 with 24 hits in 53 at-bats.
Luis Ortiz will be on the mound for the Guardians today, who is posting a 5.30 ERA through his first seven starts. He has allowed 34 hits through his first 37.1 innings pitched and given up five hits in two of his past three games. Cleveland’s bullpen also fell apart in the previous game, giving up six runs in the eighth inning last night. Turner is 2-for-6 against Ortiz in their careers. Look for his hot streak to continue and tally more than 1.5 total bases for the sixth straight game.
Bryce Harper More Than 0.5 Home Runs
Bryce Harper got off to a bit of a slow start to the season but is beginning to return to his normal self at the plate. The two-time MVP has seven home runs across the first 149 at-bats, slashing .242/.356/.436. Harper hit a home run last night and was just a few feet from a second as he hammered a towering double that went off the top of the wall.
Even more encouraging was Harper driving the ball to the opposite field with this double. When the Phillies’ superstar is at his best, he is using all parts of the field, and he looks to be back on this track. Ortiz has conceded five home runs on the season, including one the last time he was on the mound. He has struggled against left-handed hitters throughout his career, with three of the five home runs this season coming to lefties. Also, if you want something for narratives, Harper has hit a home run on Mother’s Day three times already in his career. Look for Harper to continue getting back on track for the season and put a ball over the fence again tonight.
