Since the pandemic, the UFC has hosted three events in Canada in the past two years. However, the promotion is returning to Montreal, Quebec, Canada for the first time since UFC 186 in April 2015. Six Canadians are on UFC 315 this Saturday, May 10. The last time the UFC was in Montreal was in April 2015 for UFC 186.
The Undisputed Welterweight Champion, Belal Muhammad, is defending his title for the first time against No. 5 Jack Della Maddalena in the Main Event. The second of two title fights features the greatest Women’s Flyweight Champion of all time, Valentina “Bullet” Shevchenko, making her first defense in her second reign against No. 2 Manon Fiorot.
This is Shevchenko’s 12th straight title fight, and she is 9-1-1 in them. Shevchenko regained her title against Alexa Grasso at UFC 306 and will embark on a second defense. At 37 years old, Shevchenko’s time on top is running out, but does she still have enough fire to defeat a dangerous opponent in Fiorot?
Fiorot’s rise to the top has been quick, as she started her MMA career seven years ago. Since suffering her first defeat in her first professional fight, Fiorot has won 12 consecutive bouts. Even though Shevchenko is the all-time great, she is a +110 underdog, and Fiorot is a -130 favorite.
Although Muhammad recently won his first championship, he has set lofty goals. Muhammad believes he can be one of the greatest welterweight champions ever, but he must first get past a formidable and game challenger in Della Maddalena. Muhammad is a -192 favorite, while Maddalena is +160 on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Della Maddalena has won 17 straight fights with 14 finishes and hasn’t lost a fight since 2016. Although he has been out of action for 14 months, he most recently beat Gilbert Burns at UFC 299 in March 2024. Della Maddalena will look to join Robert Whittaker and Alexander Volkanovski as Australian UFC champions.
Even though Della Maddalena primarily trains at Scrappy MMA in Perth, Australia, he has been spending time at Freestyle MMA with UFC Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovski. Fellow Australian and elite grappler and jiu-jitsu player Craig Jones has helped JDM prepare for his first title fight.
Former UFC Featherweight Champion No. 11 Jose Aldo returns to face the hometown No. 14 Aiemann Zahabi. Aldo is coming off a loss at UFC 307 against Mario Bautista and hasn’t lost two straight bouts since 2020. Zahabi has won five consecutive fights and is facing the most accomplished opponent of his career. Even though Aldo is the older fighter by one year, he is still a -192 favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook.
The second fight on the main card features the former Women’s Flyweight Champion No. 1 Alexa Grasso taking on No. 5 Natalia Silva in a high-stakes matchup. This is Grasso’s first fight since her loss in September 2024. Silva has won six straight fights in the UFC and, at 28 years old, appears to be a legitimate contender. Even though Grasso is the former champion, she is a +220 underdog.
