During Friday’s game against the Phillies, Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Merrill Kelly was forced to leave due to cramps.

While warming up for the sixth inning, Kelly called for a trainer and left the game before the inning could start. It’s unclear what kind of cramps he was experiencing, but they were severe enough to force him from the game.

It’s unfortunate timing for Kelly, 36, as he had thrown four straight scoreless innings after surrendering a run in the first inning. The outing had brought his ERA down to 4.06. Hopefully nothing more serious than cramps occurred and he will be available for his next start.

We will provide updates on Kelly’s status as they come in.
