Shota Imanaga injury update: Tuesday 4/29/25

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Shota Imanaga left Tuesday’s game against the Pirates with an injury. He appeared to be motioning to his knee while meeting with the training staff on the mound.

Imanaga exited the game after giving up a double to Pittsburgh outfielder Andrew McCutchen. He was grimacing in pain while watching the ball travel. Imanaga had pitched five scoreless innings before leaving with the injury, and the Cubs led 4-0.

Imanaga, 31, has been the most dependable starter for a surprise Chicago team. The Cubs will be hoping he can avoid an injured list stint. Cade Horton would appear to be the logical choice to replace him in the rotation if he were to miss time. We will provide updates as they come.
