The Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees play the second game of a crucial series in the American League East race in Baltimore on Tuesday with both starters on the mound having rather big question marks as they look to guide their teams to victory.

New York Yankees (-135, 9) vs. Baltimore Orioles

The Yankees give Nestor Cortes the Tuesday pitching start, who has been solid overall with a 3.50 ERA with 1.3 home runs and 1.3 walks per nine innings allowed this season, but dating back to the beginning of the 2023 season has had serious road woes.

In eight road starts since the start of the 2023 season, Cortes has a 6.08 road ERA with 1.8 home runs and 3.6 walks per nine innings while while posting a 3.34 ERA with 0.9 home runs and 1.4 walks per nine innings at home.

The Orioles counter with Dean Kremer getting the start, who has a 4.61 ERA and 4.72 fielding independent with his main issue being the deep ball, as he has allowed six home runs across his 27 1/3 innings in five starts this season.

Backing up Kremer is an offense that leads the league in home runs though, averaging over 1.9 home runs per game at home entering the series while no other team in the league entered Monday hitting more than 1.5 home runs per game at home.

While the Yankees entered the series having scored 30 runs in their final two games in Milwaukee against the Brewers over the weekend, the Orioles still lead the American League, averaging 5.6 runs per game this season while the Yankees entered the series averaging 5.1 runs per game.

With Cortes’ road woes and the Orioles lineup having close to no holes from one through nine, Baltimore will get a big win on Tuesday.
