An amateur rivalry is renewed as WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) takes on Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) this Saturday, April 20. The 12-round bout will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. Live coverage of the main card begins at 8 p.m. ET on DAZN.
The bout was originally set for Haney’s WBC belt, but news broke Friday that Garcia missed the 140-pound threshold by 3.2 pounds. Garcia weighed in at 143.2 pounds, a tough break as both sides will re-negotiate terms for the bout to proceed.
Haney is a two-weight champion who dominated the lightweight division with notable wins over George Kambosos (twice) and Vasilily Lomachenko. “The Dream” moved up to 140 pounds last December and dispatched reigning titleholder Regis Prograis. Known for his high IQ and sharp skills, Haney displayed power by dropping Prograis in the third round cruising toward a 120-107 unanimous decision win.
Garcia bounced back from his seventh-round KO loss to Gervonta Davis by defeating Oscar Duarte via KO last December. The once soft-spoken and humble fighter has caused quite a stir on social media of late but still enters with an effective high knockout rate. This bout gives Garcia the opportunity to right the ship of his career.
Before Haney and Garcia clash to close out the card, the WBA vacant interim super flyweight title is also on the line. John Ramirez and David Jimenez will square off for the belt. Ramirez is a -200 betting favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook. Jimenez enters a +160 underdog.
The co-main event features a pair of super lightweights, as Arnold Barboza Jr and Sean McComb are scheduled for 10 rounds. Barboza Jr. is a -1100 betting favorite while McComb enters with +650 underdog odds.
Lastly in the main event, Haney is a -800 favorite to win. Garcia is a +500 underdog, with the favored method of victory being Haney to win by knockout (-115), according to Draftkings Sportsbook.
