Max Meyer ($7,600; 42.5 FPTS) was selected by the Miami Marlins with the third overall pick in the 2020 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut in 2022, but only pitched six innings due to undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Last season, he started 11 games and pitched 57 innings, and the results were predictably mediocre. The strikeout rate was only 18.5%, the maxEV allowed was 114 mph and the hard hit rate was 47.2%.

Through four starts and 24 innings to start this season, Meyer has looked healthy and like the third overall pick. The fastball velocity has ticked up from 94.2 mph to 95.3 mph. The FIP is 3.41 after being 5.9 last season. The strikeout rate is a robust 27.6% and he’s done a much better job of keeping the ball in the yard. Last season, Meyer allowed 14 home runs. So far this season, he’s served up three long balls.

On Monday against the Cincinnati Reds, Meyer threw a masterpiece. He went six innings, allowed five hits, zero walks and struck out 14 batters. The Marlins went to the bullpen in the seventh inning up 3-0.

As it stands now, Meyer’s next start would be in Seattle next Sunday against a Mariners team that is 10th in strikeout rate on the season.
