UPDATE: Eddie Rosario was called up to replace Ohtani and will bat eighth in the order Friday as the designated hitter. Tommy Edman ($4,400) will bat leadoff. Rosario has a career slash of .262/.298/.450 with a .188 ISO, although in 319 plate appearances last season had a .141 ISO with a .175/.215/.316 slash.

Shohei Ohtani will not be in the lineup for Friday’s game against the Texas Rangers, as he is back in Los Angeles with his wife for the birth of their first child.

A player placed on the paternity list can miss a maximum of three games, so Ohtani should be back for at least the start of the Cubs series on Tuesday.
It’s a blow for the Dodgers offense, as Ohtani set the table in a demonstrable way. In 92 plate appearances as the leadoff hitter, Ohtani has hit six home runs while stealing five bases. The slash is .288/.380/.550 with a .263 ISO. That said, the Dodgers offense is still potent even without Ohtani.
The lineup for Friday’s game has not been announced yet.
