Few hitters in baseball can say they’re as hot as Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker.
The 28-year-old slugger is off to a start that makes Astros fans sick to their stomachs. Tucker leads the majors in hits, runs, doubles, and total bases. No wonder the Cubs brass are considering handing him a massive extension.
Meanwhile, these San Diego Padres are cooking. They’re 13-3 on the young season and have yet to lose at home. All the more impressive that they’ve weathered the early struggles from ace Dylan Cease.
Of all the matchups on the board tonight, only one is between teams with double-digit wins. So naturally, I have to get in on the action.

Tucker has a lot going for him in this matchup. For one, as I mentioned, he’s scorching hot.
Second, Tucker has had a lot of success in his exposure to Cease over the years. The Cubs star is 4-for-10 with a double, a walk, and only two strikeouts. Ten total at-bats isn’t a wealth of experience, but it is worth mentioning.
And third, Cease is off to an uncharacteristic start this year. Here are the lines from his first three times toeing the slab: Four hits and three earned runs in 4.1 innings against Atlanta, four hits and one earned run in 6.1 innings against Cleveland, nine hits and nine earned runs (!!!) against the Athletics. I’m not confident the struggles of the Padres’ ace will cease tonight against a red-hot Cubs offense.
Hot batter. Cold pitcher. Hot batter has career success against cold pitcher. I think this adds up to a round-tripper for Tucker.
