Rory McIlroy put on another masterclass at Augusta National on Saturday, posting his second consecutive round of 66 to take the outright Masters lead by two strokes. He had it all working early, opening his third round by going birdie, eagle, birdie, par, birdie. After giving a couple shots back on both Holes 8 and 10, the Northern Irishman birdied the par-5 13th hole, before capping off his round with his second eagle of the day on 15. All in all, McIlroy gained 6.5 strokes from tee-to-green on his round, which cleared the entire field by 1.6 strokes.
As for who’s chasing the 28-time PGA TOUR winner, Bryson DeChambeau answered the bell, posting an extremely gritty three-under 69 when he clearly did not have his best stuff. The reigning U.S. Open Champion lost 1.9 strokes on approach, but made up for it with an insane day both on and around the greens. He made a 45-foot birdie to open his round, before closing with a 48-foot birdie just off the fringe on 18. He sits at 10-under for the tournament and trails McIlroy by two strokes.
McIlroy will look to make history on Sunday by becoming just the sixth golfer in history to complete the career grand slam (win all four majors). The other five on the list are Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. Pretty good company if you ask me.
McIlroy currently sits at -200 on DraftKings Sportsbook to take home the green jacket, while you can get DeChambeau at +250. Others in the mix include Corey Conners (+1800), Ludvig Aberg (+3500) and Scottie Scheffler (+3500), all of whom trail by four or more shots.
If you prefer to not touch the winner, there are always the placement markets that feature a lot of options. Xander Schauffele very quietly posted a two-under round of 70 on Saturday and sits T10 heading to the final round. Incase you forgot, Schauffele won both the PGA Championship and Open Championship last year, and has been an absolute top-10 machine for his career in majors. You can get him at -175 to top-10 here, or if you prefer rolling the dice a bit, +260 to top-five, where he sits just two strokes behind currently.
Another market that could feature a fun Sunday sweat is the Top English golfer, where Justin Rose is currently leading Tyrrell Hatton by three strokes. Rose lost a whopping 4.54 strokes putting on Saturday, which was the worst in the field. This came after he led the field in putting in Round 1. Hatton was brutal with his irons during his third round, but was dialed in on both Thursday and Friday, and definitely makes for an interesting bet at this +260 number.
