It’s looking like Arizona Diamondbacks star Corbin Carroll is back.
After injuries derailed what many thought may be an MVP campaign last year, he’s rounding into form to begin this season. His .282/.391/.641 triple slash line pops off the screen, fueled by seven extra base hits. Arizona’s hitting has been hot as a team with Corbin in the lead; its 5.8 runs per game ranks fifth in the majors.
After a six-game homestand, the Diamondbacks return home for an interleague matchup with the Baltimore Orioles, beginning by facing de facto ace Zach Eflin. Will Arizona continue its sweet-swinging ways, or will Eflin be able to charm the Snakes?

This is the right way to mesh Carroll’s hot hitting with this strong Diamondbacks lineup.
Even without Ketel Marte behind him in the order, the friendly confines of Chase Field (and its park factor of 116) tend to produce results for Carroll. Out of the leadoff spot, he will get his opportunities at the very least. Eflin does have good numbers against the Diamondbacks hitters he has faced, and Carroll himself is 0-for-3. However, the 4/5 batter combo of Josh Naylor and Lourdes Gurriel are 4-for-10 combined in their career.
Baltimore has produced strong bullpen results to begin the year, which nerfs his outlook somewhat. Despite that, I think Carroll can do enough damage to deliver value here.
