The 2025 NFL Draft is quickly approaching, and the New York Giants hold the third-overall pick. Unlike in past years, the direction that this draft is going is a mystery, even to draft experts. Less than a month away from the draft, the decision-making of the teams at the top of the draft board could change day by day.

NFL Draft Props: No. 3 Pick Odds
The New York Giants hold the third pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. There is still a relative amount of uncertainty around the top of the draft, although the picture has gotten clearer over the past couple of weeks. Just a few weeks ago, it looked like the Giants could be aggressively going after one of the quarterbacks, Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders, in the draft. However, they ended up signing both Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston to their quarterback room. With Wilson as the starter and Winston as one of the league’s top backups, it’s hard to imagine the Giants using their top pick on a quarterback.
Ahead of the Giants in the draft, the Titans draft first, and the Browns after them. There was a time when it looked like the Titans might forego a quarterback and take the best player available, Abdul Carter. However, over the last couple of weeks, it has started to look more certain that Tennessee will take Cam Ward to be their next starting quarterback. Things are a little bit more uncertain in Cleveland, however. The Browns’ quarterback situation is still a mess heading into next season. If they sign a veteran like Aaron Rodgers or Kirk Cousins, they would most likely not take Shedeur Sanders in the draft. That would make the likely pick for them Abdul Carter.
So, the most likely outcome is that Cam Ward goes to the Titans, and Abdul Carter goes to the Browns. That would allow the Giants to take the Heisman Trophy winner, Travis Hunter, with the third pick. Hunter is one of the most fascinating draft prospects in recent memory. Nobody has ever played on both sides of the ball to the level of success that Hunter did in college. Hunter was one of the best cornerbacks in college football, while also finishing fifth in the country in receiving yards. The big question is, where Hunter will play at the next level? With the level of physicality in the NFL, it’s hard to imagine Hunter playing nearly every snap on both sides of the ball like he did in college. That also isn’t sustainable for a long NFL career.
While Hunter could likely thrive in either position in the NFL, the more logical move is to make him a full-time cornerback. Hunter’s body and traits at defensive back seem like they will translate better to the NFL. Then, Hunter could be used sporadically on offense for key plays. Hunter can have a package of gadget plays where he is used and can come in for a key third down or goal-line situation as an extra weapon. It’s much easier to be a full-time defensive player who runs the occasional offensive play than vice versa. The Giants’ secondary is one of their biggest weak points. Hunter could come in and immediately become their CB1 and be a leader on their defense. With Malik Nabers already proving himself as a star in the NFL, they have less concern at wide receiver. Hunter could still come in and play alongside Nabers at times on offense, which would be a scary proposition for opposing defenses.
If Ward and Carter are off the board, it’s hard to imagine the Giants taking anyone but Hunter. Not only is he a generationally unique talent, but he also fills a major need for them at cornerback. However, if the Browns pivot and decide to select Hunter or Shedeur Sanders, that makes things more interesting for the Giants. If Abdul Carter is on the board, it would be hard to pass on the EDGE out of Penn State. Many consider him to be the most talented player and the “sure thing” in this draft class. If the Browns take Travis Hunter, Carter becomes the obvious pick for the Giants. If the Browns take Sanders, it would be a tough choice, but they would likely go with Carter. However, at the current odds, it would be worth laying the juice on Travis Hunter to go third, as that is where all signs are pointing at the moment.
