In news that will shock literally no one, ESPN’s Shams Charania is reporting that Tyrese Maxey will miss the remaining six games on the 76ers’ schedule due to a finger tendon injury. He’ll join fellow All-Stars Joel Embiid and Paul George on the list of notable Philadelphia assets that will not return in 2024-25.
Again, this does not come as a surprise. Maxey has missed the 76ers’ last 16 contests, most recently appearing in a game all the way back on March 3. Philadelphia is also in the midst of a shameless tanking effort, with the organization attempting to hold onto its 2025 first-round pick. It’s top-six protected, so the 76ers will still need a little lottery luck, despite their 23-53 record, to not have to ship the selection to Oklahoma City.
In the 16 games Maxey has missed, Quentin Grimes has emerged as Philadelphia’s No. 1 offensive option. The veteran wing owns a 31.7% usage rate and a .613 true shooting percentage dating back to March 4, a span where Grimes is also averaging a very respectable 1.28 FPTS per minute.
