As we sit just one week away from the Masters, the PGA TOUR heads to San Antonio, Texas for the Valero Texas Open. TPC San Antonio will be the host course, and measures as a 7,438-yard par 72 with Poa Trivialis overseeded greens.
We have another full-field event on tap this week, with the top-65 and ties all making the 36-hole cut. Ludvig Aberg is the current betting favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook at 12/1, followed by Corey Conners and Tommy Fleetwood, both at 16/1.
Below I have outlined my two favorite bets for the week.
Patrick Cantlay to win (+1800)
Cantlay has been a feature in this article multiple times over the past year or so, and it’s pretty widely known by now that he has not won on the PGA TOUR since back at the 2022 BMW Championship. However, he’s opened 2025 in extremely solid form, and much like Justin Thomas, I firmly believe his time is coming. Cantlay has four top-15 finishes in six starts since the calendar flipped to 2025, including a pair of top-fives at both the American Express and Genesis Invitational.
Cantlay almost never plays golf in Texas, and in fact will be making his first ever start at TPC San Antonio this week. For him to decide one week before the biggest tournament of the year that he wanted to play a non-Signature event like this, I’d firmly say he’s treating this strictly as a business trip.
Everything about his game is clicking right now, as he ranks seventh in this field in both SG: Tee-to-Green and Total Strokes gained over the past 24 rounds. If this were 2023, Cantlay would be close to 10/1 in a field like this, so I will gladly back him at 18/1 in this spot.
Gary Woodland to win (+5000)
Woodland has really had a renaissance season after having brain surgery just 18 months ago. Despite missing his fair share of cuts, he’s finished T22 or better six times already in 13 starts since October, including a T9 at the Shriners Children’s Open and a runner-up finish last week in Houston. He finished just one stroke out of a potential playoff at Memorial Park, where he gained 6.1 strokes ball-striking and 8.7 strokes putting.
Woodland has not played the Valero in three years, but he does have elite history here, posting back-to-back top-eight finishes in 2021 and 2022, while also adding a T26 in 2015. Approach will be the name of the game this week at TPC San Antonio, and Woodland ranks fifth in this field in that department over the past 48 rounds, while sitting ninth in SG: Ball-Striking.
When you combine both his course history and rolling numbers, all the contextual factors are in place for Woodland to contend this week, and this 50/1 number is a very fair price in a field with no Scottie Scheffler or Rory McIlroy.
