The NASCAR Cup Series Viva Mexico 250 at Mexico City is on Sunday and DraftKings is offering a new way to play fantasy NASCAR. The game is simple. Build a “Pick Set” (2+ drivers) and decide if they will outperform their stat projections. Here is some advice to help build your DraftKings Pick6 Pick Sets for the NASCAR Cup Series Viva Mexico 250 at Mexico City.
Ross Chastain: Fantasy Points – 38.5
Pick6 Play: More
Trackhouse Racing put all their eggs in one basket. The huevos are in the canasta in Mexico. Who’s got the biggest huevos? Ross “The Boss” Chastain doesn’t hold back. He established himself as a premier Cup Series driver by winning at the Circuit of the Americas in 2022. That victory was the result of aggressive driving in the final moments—his calling card. If anyone is going to beat Shane van Gisbergen, they’ll need to match that intensity.
Chastain posted four of the fastest laps in both practice sessions, consistently tracking in the top five. The Trackhouse stable is strong, as always expected on a road course. The team, owned by a former road course racer, has speed in spades. That’s why they signed SVG, Daniel Suarez and Connor Zilisch. Chastain’s road course prowess is often overshadowed by his oval excellence, but he’s just as formidable as anyone in the field. Others may have more experience, but Chastain has more fight. He’s not afraid to play the bully and accepts the consequences. That’s a necessary trait on a road course. Chastain has even wrecked teammates for wins—he’d have no qualms turning a kind Kiwi for another.
AJ Allmendinger: Fantasy Points – 37.5
Pick6 Play: Less
Friday’s practice sessions were classic Allmendinger. NASCAR broadcasts love cutting to his in-car audio. The Dinger’s discussions are always depressing. During his Xfinity Series days, it was routine to hear Allmendinger express doubt about his car and abilities. A therapy session would then follow. The team owner would hop on the radio and give AJ a pep talk. For the most part, Allmendinger would pull through. He wouldn’t win but would secure a solid finish. That’s the Xfinity Series, where the competition isn’t as fierce. That approach doesn’t work in the Cup Series. This is cutthroat. The competitors are monsters. There’s no room for doubt.
Allmendinger struggled in session one. He improved in session two and qualified eighth on Saturday. Is all well? Everyone improved in session two, and his progress wasn’t as impressive as others’. His four fastest laps in session two were just OK. Their average ranks 20th in the session. His best lap was a second off the session’s fastest. That’s not going to cut it in a cutthroat field.
