Here are my top Pick6 plays for the 3/29 MLB slate.
Oneil Cruz More Than 0.5 RBIs
Oneil Cruz is one of the most exciting young players in baseball and is coming off of a career-best season in 2024. Cruz had an OPS+ of 113 and a WAR of 2.5 last season in Pittsburgh. He is already off to a great start in 2025 with a home run, two RBIs and two stolen bases through just two games. Cruz is in a great position to have another big game against Marlins pitcher Valente Bellozo. Bellozo has just 13 career stars in Major League Baseball, but one of those starts came against Cruz and the Pirates last season. Oneil Cruz hit a home run off of Bellozo in his first at bat of the game last season. Cruz crushed right-handed pitching to the tune of a .885 OPS against righties last season. It should be another big game for Cruz against a pitcher that he has a good history against.
Mark Vientos More Than 0.5 RBIs
Mark Vientos is another exciting young player who broke out last season. After playing in just 81 career MLB games before last season, Vientos became a regular in the Mets lineup in 2024 and finished the year with a 3.1 WAR and an OPS+ of 135. Vientos had an RBI double in the Mets’ win last night, and he should keep that momentum going tonight against Spencer Arrighetti. Vientos has the benefit of fitting into the lineup after the likes of Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, Pete Alonso and sometimes Brandon Nimmo. That means there are often runners on base when Vientos comes up to bat, giving him plenty of chances to drive runs in. Arrighetti is a promising young pitcher but still has the propensity to give up runs in bunches at times, finishing last season with an era of 4.53. The Mets should hit Arrighetti well, and Vientos can get in on the party and drive in at least one run.
Bryce Harper More Than 1.5 Total Bases
Bryce Harper celebrated Opening Day with a home run against the Nationals. The superstar showed that he is ready for another great season after last year. Based on WAR, 2024 was the fourth-best season of Harper’s 14-year career. His two MVP seasons and his Rookie of the Year season are the only three seasons better than Harper’s 2024. Harper tied his career high in doubles last season and proved that he is still one of the best hitters in the game. The left-handed batter has hit better against right-handed pitching throughout his career, which he faces today against Jake Irvin. Harper has a career tOPS+ of 107 against right-handers compared to 84 against left-handers. He is 2-of-6 in his career against Irvin and should be able to pull off an extra base hit in this game to go over this number.
Francisco Lindor More Than 0.5 Runs
Francisco Lindor has been the lead-off hitter in both of the Mets’ first two games. Juan Soto now sits just behind Lindor in the Mets’ lineup, which gives Lindor protection that he has never had before. Lindor had a monster 2024 for the Mets, leading them to the NLCS and finishing second in NL MVP voting. By WAR, it was the second-best season of Lindor’s career and his best as a Met. Lindor has scored over 100 runs in each of the past two seasons, and that number should only increase now that he is batting lead-off. Lindor has Juan Soto, Pete Alonso, Mark Vientos and Brandon Nimmo all ready to drive him in whenever he gets on base. Last season, Lindor had a higher tOPS+ against right-handed starters (104) than he did against lefties (89). He should be able to get on base against Arrighetti and have one of his teammates drive him in.
Nick Lodolo More Than 5.5 Strikeouts Thrown
The young Reds starter, Nick Lodolo, is set to make his first start of the season against the Giants. Lodolo has been plagued by injuries in his young career, but when he’s on, he has nasty stuff and could be a great pitcher. The Giants struggled against lefties last season, with a strikeout percentage of 24.9%. That was the sixth-highest mark in Major League Baseball in 2024. Lodolo should be able to rack up strikeouts against this Giants team, who have already shown that they struggle with strikeouts in their one game this season. Reds’ starter Hunter Greene threw eight strikeouts in just five innings of work on Opening Day, and the Giants ended up striking out 17 times. While it’s just a one-game sample size, the Giants have the worst strikeout rate in the MLB so far. If their lefty struggles continue into this season, Lodolo should cruise over this number.
Aaron Judge More Than 0.5 RBIs
Aaron Judge started off the season on a strong note with an RBI double on Opening Day. On Saturday, he gets to face his former teammate, Nestor Cortes. There is a lot of familiarity there from being teammates against Cortes for so long, so Judge should know how to attack him. Judge also crushed lefties in general last season. He had a tOPS+ of 115 and a .735 SLG against lefties in 2024, compared to a tOPS+ of 95 and a .691 SLG against righties. Cortes also had some struggles last season with the Yankees. Of the three years of his career where he threw 90+ innings, it was his highest WHIP (1.153) and by far his highest ERA (3.77). The Yankees should be able to get on base against Cortes and Judge should pick up another RBI in his second game of the season.
