Rangers vs. Tigers Bets: How to approach player props from Texas-Detroit on June 3

Nathan Eovaldi had an abbreviated outing in his return from a groin strain as a result of him not making any rehab starts. After logging 37 pitches over three frames, it seems likely that 50-60 pitches is what we’ll see from him vs. Detroit.

Tarik Skubal, on the other hand, continues to shove. Outside of a hiccup vs. Kansas City, he had a stellar May, striking out 39 over 30 frames while posting a 2.37 ERA and 1.92 FIP.

With both starters having high strikeout potential, here’s a look at the strikeout rates of the lineups they’ll oppose (in accordance with the handedness of the starter they’re facing), as shown in Team Splits tab in the DraftKings Sportsbook Stats Hub:

The Tigers are almost striking out a quarter of the time they face a right-handed starter. With Eovaldi’s line only set at 4.5 — which makes sense because of pitch-count concerns — the over (-135) is very much attainable if Bruce Bochy lets him log 50 pitches.

Skubal’s strikeouts prop is set at a reasonable number. He’s logged over six strikeouts in 5 of 11 starts, and he’s logged exactly six strikeouts on five other occasions. A parlay of Eovaldi over 4.5 strikeouts and Skubal 6+ strikeouts thrown provides +145 odds and might be worth considering.

But as far as individual plays go, I prefer the over on Skubal’s outs recorded line. The lefty’s outs recorded line is set at 18.5, which he’s also gone over in 5 of 11 starts. The odds on the over are set at +155, which feel a bit high when considering what the Rangers bring to the table. Their strikeout rate indicates Skubal shouldn’t have an overwhelming amount of deep counts, and they only have a .296 on-base percentage, .118 ISO and .290 wOBA.

Like he did when these two teams met in April, Skubal is in position to work into the seventh inning on Monday.

As for the hitters in this game, here’s a look at how some of them have performed over their last five games against their hits line for Monday’s matchup via the Consistency Sheets in the DraftKings Sportsbook Stats Hub:

Adolis Garcia has had his fair share of strikeouts against left-handed pitchers, but he’s also made life rather difficult for lefties. He just took Miami’s Trevor Rogers deep on Sunday, elevating his season-long ISO and wOBA against lefties to .246 and .354, respectively. He or Marcus Semien could get to Skubal. Between Semien and Garcia, the latter is my preferred offensive play for 2+ total bases with +135 odds.

As for Detroit, Matt Vierling, Riley Greene and Gio Urshela are all options. Vierling and Greene of course hit for more power than Urshela, so they could be good total bases options. However, Urshela has seen Eovaldi quite a bit over his career and done well against the right-hander. While playing him to go over 1.5 total bases might be too much to ask, Same Game Parlaying him and Garcia to each log a hit provides +110 odds. Same Game Parlaying Garcia’s total bases prop (2+) with Urshela to log a hit provides +202 odds.
