The Memphis Grizzlies are shocking the NBA with a fantastic season and currently hold the third-place spot in the Western Conference, even despite a slew of injuries throughout the campaign. Tonight, they host the San Antonio Spurs for the latest installment of their division rivalry.
The latest player to pop up on the injury report is star point guard Ja Morant, who was listed questionable with a shoulder issue on Saturday afternoon with just a few hours until tip-off. However, it could just be a precautionary move for the Grizzlies, who are on the second leg of a back-to-back after losing a heartbreaker to the Knicks on an OG Anunoby buzzer-beater.
Morant, a two-time All-Star, has appeared in 37 of 59 contests this season. The point guard has suffered from a bit of a slump over that sample, averaging 20.9 points, 7.4 assists, and 4.1 rebounds. It’s Morant’s lowest scoring average since the second year of his career, and his 43.3% FG% is the lowest of his six seasons in the league.
Over the last couple of campaigns, injuries and suspensions have interrupted Morant’s path to superstardom — if he suits up tonight, it will mark the first time he’s played six consecutive games since th 2022-2023 season.
If Morant can’t go, Desmond Bane would be a candidate to take on a greater role in the backcourt offense, though he is also questionable tonight due to injury. Otherwise, Jaylen Wells and Scotty Pippen Jr. could each become cheap targets in DFS contests.
