After Thursday’s first round of the Mexico Open, the projected cut line was three-under, and that’s where it ended after Friday’s second round. Here are some notable players who won’t be playing over the weekend:
In the $500K Pitch + Putt tournament, there were 19 golfers rostered on at least 10% of teams. Four of them missed the cut.
Sam Stevens ($9,800; 27.5 FPTS) was rostered on 17.45% of teams, the seventh-highest number. On Friday, Stevens bogeyed the first hole of the day, but bounced back with four birdies before bogeying the final hole of the round. He finished two-under. Unfortunately, he shot a two-over 73 on Thursday and missed the cut by three strokes.
Kurt Kitayama ($10,200; 33.5 FPTS) was the second-highest priced golfer and rostered on 13.65% of teams. Kitayama shot a one-under 70 on Thursday and followed that up with an even-par 71 on Friday. There was some optimism for Kitayma early on, as he drained two birdies, but he ended the front nine with a bogey to give a stroke back. On the back nine, he racked up six pars in a row, but bogeys on Hole 16 and 17 did him in. Kitayama missed the cut by two strokes.
Beau Hossler ($9,100; 33 FPTS) was rostered on 13.55% of teams. He was the mirror image of Kitayama, as he shot an even-par on Thursday then went one-under on Friday. On the front nine, Hossler made no progress with a bogey and a birdie. He bogeyed the first hole of the back nine but bounced back with two birdies. Unfortunately, he ran out of holes and missed the cut by two strokes.
Carson Young ($7,700; 23.5 FPTS) was rostered on 10.11% of teams. Young shot a three-over 74 on Thursday and was only able to go two-over on Friday to miss the cut by eight strokes. Young bogeyed three of the first six holes on Friday before getting one back with a birdie on Hole 7. On the back nine, he had two bogeys sandwiched around two birdies.

Aldrich Potgieter ($7,300; 98.5 FPTS) scorched the course on Friday, shooting a blistering 10-under 61, which was the best round of the day by three strokes. Potgieter birdied the first hole of the day, then closed out the front nine with five straight birdies. On the back nine, he racked up four more birdies for the unblemished round. On Thursday, he went six-under with the only blemish being a bogey on Hole 8. Potgieter currently leads the field by four strokes heading into the weekend.
