Detroit Lions at Kansas City Chiefs

The NFL regular season kicks off with the defending Super Bowl champions hosting the Lions, who are expected to continue their turnaround under coach Dan Campbell. The Chiefs went 17-3 SU on their title run last season but only 8-11-1 ATS. The Lions had the opposite trend going 12-5 ATS but only 9-8 SU. These teams will be meeting for the first time since 2019, when the Chiefs won SU but the Lions covered ATS in a high-scoring, 34-30 Chiefs’ win in Detroit. Since coach Andy Reid arrived in Kansas City in 2023, the Chiefs are 9-1 SU and 7-3 ATS in their 10 Week 1 matchups.

This will be the start of a new era for the Colts with first-year head coach Shane Steichen at the helm and rookie QB Anthony Richardson under center. Last season, the Jaguars beat the Colts SU/ATS 24-0 in Jacksonville in Week 2, but the Colts got a 34-27 SU/ATS win at home in Week 6. The home team has won each of the last 11 head-to-head matchups between these two teams.

Since the 1969 season, Super Bowl losers have gone 23-31 ATS and 28-26 SU in Week 1 of the following season, and in the last 23 years, the teams that lost the Super Bowl are just 4-19 ATS and 9-14 SU the following Week 1. The Patriots have only hit the 1H Moneyline in 5 of their last 20 games, but they have hit the Team Total Over in 13 of those 20 games.

Week 1 wraps up with a great matchup between the Jets and Bills, and all eyes will be on Aaron Rodgers in his debut for the Jets. The two teams split their head-to-head matchups last year with each team winning at home. The Jets won 20-17 in Week 9 but lost 20-12 in Week 14. Since this will be primarily a showcase of the two QBs, here are some quick numbers on Rodgers and Josh Allen: Rodgers is 6-1 ATS in his career as a starter in the regular season when a home underdog, Rodgers is 10-5 SU/8-7 ATS as a starter in Week 1, Rodgers is 12-6 SU/10-8 ATS as a starter on Monday Night Football, Allen is 40-11 SU/28-21-2 ATS as a regular season favorite, Allen is 3-3 SU/ATS as a starter on Monday Night Football, and Allen is 3-1 SU/ATS as a starter in Week 1.
