Guard
Stud
Cade Cunningham, Detroit Pistons at New York Knicks ($10,300): Cunningham has a 31% usage rate on the season and has triple-doubled seven times, with the most recent on Saturday. He’s exceeded 55 FPTS in four of the last five games with two of those over 60. The game that he didn’t was due to a blowout in which he played only 23 minutes. In two games against the Knicks this season, Cunningham has put up 71.5 and 41 FPTS.
Other Options: Anthony Edwards ($9,000), Scottie Barnes ($8,900), Stephen Curry ($8,800), Amen Thompson ($7,300), Fred VanVleet ($7,100), Jalen Green ($6,800)
Value
Donte DiVincenzo, Minnesota Timberwolves at Washington Wizards ($5,400): DiVinenzo entered the starting lineup four games ago and put up at least 25 FPTS in all, with the most recent contest a 57-FPTS performance. Now he faces a Wizards team that is fourth in pace and dead-last in defensive efficiency.
Other Options: Chris Paul ($6,000), Jared Butler ($4,200)
Forward
Stud
LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers vs. San Antonio Spurs ($9,500): The Lakers haven’t played since last Tuesday due to the fires. There’s a chance this game gets postponed as well. If this game does get played, there’s a chance of rust but I think the rest will be of benefit to James. On the season, he’s failed to hit 40 FPTS nine times with four of those coming in the first five games of the season. In two games against the Spurs this season, James finished with 56.5 and 51 FPTS.
Other Options: Jaren Jackson Jr. ($9,200), Scottie Barnes ($8,900), Josh Hart ($7,900), Amen Thompson ($7,300), Julius Randle ($7,200), Tobias Harris ($6,300), Jaime Jaquez Jr. ($6,100)
Value
Jaden McDaniels, Minnesota Timberwolves at Washington Wizards ($4,200): McDaniels is a low-usage player who is out there primarily for his defense. He will likely end up in the 20-FPTS range, but there is a chance for upside due to the matchup. The Wizards are fourth in pace, so there should be elevated opportunities to rack up fantasy goodies. McDaniels is coming off a 41-FPTS performance on Saturday and has five other games this season over 30 FPTS.
Other Options: Nikola Jovic ($4,900), Naz Reid ($4,700), Kyle Anderson ($4,000)
Center
Stud
Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio Spurs at Los Angeles Lakers ($11,300): There are many good options up top at the center position, so it comes down to price, projected ownership and roster construction. In a vacuum, I lean towards Wembanyama, even though he’s coming off a 35-FPTS performance. The ceiling is just too and he had put up over 63 FPTS in the three prior contests. Wembanyama has exceeded 80 FPTS twice this season and he’s going to be putting up 100-burgers sooner than later.
Other Options: Anthony Davis ($10,500), Karl-Anthony Towns ($10,000), Jaren Jackson Jr. ($9,200), Alperen Sengun ($9,100), Julius Randle ($7,200)
Value
Jonas Valanciunas, Washington Wizards vs. Minnesota Timberwolves ($5,300): Valanciunas will likely only play around 20 minutes, but there’s a chance he gets a few extra minutes due to the Rudy Gobert matchup. On the season, Valanciunas is averaging a healthy 1.35 FPTS per minute. His issue has always been about the number of minutes.
Other Options: Jalen Duren ($5,500), Rudy Gobert ($5,200), Nikola Jovic ($4,900), Naz Reid ($4,700)
