The Jacksonville Jaguars have their work cut out for them in 2024. They fell short of the playoffs last season, going 9-8, one year after reaching the Divisional Round in the 2022 postseason. The Jaguars have continued to build around quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Jacksonville lost wide receiver Calvin Ridley to free agency this offseason, but picked up Gabe Davis from Buffalo. They also signed former Patriots starting QB Mac Jones, as well cornerback Ronald Darby, safety Darnell Savage Jr., and center Mitch Morse in the offseason.
They grabbed a new target for Lawrence in the first round of the draft, selecting Brian Thomas Jr. out of LSU. They went with another former Tiger out of Baton Rouge in the second round with defensive tackle Maason Smith, and focused heavily on filling out their defense in the draft’s later rounds, selecting two cornerbacks and two defensive linemen.
The Jaguars go up against the Texans in the AFC South this season, and while two seasons ago, that meant two near-guaranteed wins, it now signifies a major obstacle in the Jags’ path to winning the division. Houston’s turnaround from a 3-13-1 season to a Divisional Round run is bad news for Jacksonville, who will likely be playing for a Wild Card spot come January, barring any major surprises.
