UPDATE: Despite participating in Friday’s morning shootaround, De’Aaron Fox has been ruled out for tonight’s matchup with Boston.
Under new head coach Doug Christie, the Sacramento Kings have started to turn things around. The Kings are on a five-game winning streak, which was extended on Monday night in thrilling fashion by a DeMar DeRozan masterclass in double-overtime against the Miami Heat. On Friday, Sacramento will hope to extend its streak to six as it faces the Boston Celtics at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The Kings might welcome All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox back just in time for the game. Fox, who’s averaging 26.7 points and 6.2 assists per game this season, has missed each of the last two games with a hip injury, but Sacramento listed him as questionable for Friday’s contest. Third-year pro Keon Ellis has taken on a bigger role in Fox’s absence and has performed well, dropping 17 points in 48 minutes against the Heat.
It’ll be a tough task regardless against the 27-10 Celtics, who will likely welcome back guard Derrick White, who missed Tuesday’s win over the Denver Nuggets with an illness. White and six-time All-Defense honoree Jrue Holiday are both elite perimeter stoppers who would pose a challenge for Fox even if he plays, although he was extremely effective against Boston in 2023-24, combining for 69 points across the two contests.
