The 2025 PGA TOUR season begins this week with The Sentry at the Plantation Course (par 73, 7,596 yards, Bermuda greens) of the Kapalua Resort in Lahaina, Hawaii. The field features 60 players and there will be no cut.
Below, I have featured a matchup bet to consider for the Sentry.
Sungjae Im (-120) over Hideki Matsuyama Tournament H2H
There are many reasons to side with Im for this matchup vs. Matsuyama. First off, Im heads to Hawaii in much better form than Matsuyama. Both these players last competed at the ZOZO Championship in October and Im finished T13th, while Matsuyama finished T48th of the 78-man field — concerning, considering he has been very successful at this event in the past with a win and runner-up finish in six starts at Accordia CC. There are 60 players competing at The Sentry this week, and when we compare all of these players’ last 24 rounds, Im ranks 13th in total strokes gained, while Matsuyama ranks 25th.
On top of Im being in better form than Matsuyama, Im boasts a better resume at the Plantation Course. The 26-year-old owns a career 7.8 average finish in four starts at this par 73, which ranks second among all the golfers playing this week that have competed at the Plantation Course more than once. Meanwhile Matsuyama carries a 20.3 average career finish in seven starts. When both of these players teed it up at the Plantation Course for last year’s Sentry, Im led the tournament in birdies and finished T5th, while Matsuyama finished second-to-last of the 59-player field.
Im carries +1800 odds to win The Sentry this week compared to Matsuyama at +2000. Quickly attacking Im at -120 to finish better than Mastuyama is a smart move, as this line is likely to keep moving in favor of Im before the start of the event.
