The Cincinnati Bengals’ starting RB, Chase Brown, suffered an ankle sprain during their 30-24 overtime win against the Denver Broncos. Brown did not practice on Tuesday ahead of the Bengals’ Week 18 matchup against the division-rival Pittsburgh Steelers.
After Joe Mixon was traded to the Houston Texans in the offseason, Brown took over as the Bengals’ RB1. Brown has 1,350 total yards, which ranks him 13th among RBs in the NFL this season. He is averaging 16.2 fantasy points this season and has two games with 24 or more in the previous four games.
But if he cannot play against the Steelers in Week 18, the next man up is Khail Herbert. Last week, he had four carries for 23 yards after Brown was injured. Although Herbert has had limited playing time this season, he was productive for the Chicago Bears last year.
Herbert totaled 745 yards with two touchdowns in 2023. He had three games with over 100 rushing yards last season. In four of the six games he received at least 10 carries, Herbert had 75 or more yards. If Brown doesn’t play, Herbert will likely take on a more significant role in the Bengals’ offense.
The Steelers beat the Bengals 44-38 in their previous game in Week 13. Brown had 12 carries for 70 yards and a touchdown against Pittsburgh on December 1. The Steelers’ defense has allowed over 100 rushing yards in three of their last four games. If Herbert is the starter this week and receives 10 or more carries, he will have a great chance to impact fantasy lineups.
