With just two games left to play this season, Josh Allen is the -200 favorite to win the NFL MVP at DraftKings Sportsbook. Allen has been dealing with injuries to both of his hands the past few weeks but he has been a full participant in practice all week, so he should be good to go against the Jets. The Bills are not going to be able to catch the Chiefs for the No. 1 seed in the AFC and they have the AFC East locked up so there is not much left for them to play for. However, Lamar Jackson has considerably closed the gap in the NFL MVP odds market so Allen is really playing these final two weeks trying to put up big numbers in two convincing wins over bad teams in the Jets and the Patriots.
Allen has been ridiculously good this season. He leads all quarterbacks in adjusted EPA/play and ranks third in EPA+CPOE composite. He has also been an incredible runner this season, ranking fifth in rushing yards and second in rushing touchdowns among quarterbacks. This is a good matchup for Allen against a Jets defense that has really struggled this season, particularly the past few weeks. Since Week 10, the Jets have had the worst defense in the NFL by EPA/play. They rank 32nd in defensive EPA/dropback and 29th in defensive rushing success rate. They have not been able to stop any opponent from scoring in any way that they want to.
Allen will want to put up some big numbers against this bad Jets defense to improve his MVP case. Therefore, I am backing him to score a rushing touchdown in this game. Allen has eight rushing touchdowns in his past six games and was on a streak of five straight games with at least one rushing touchdown before last week. Allen also had a rushing touchdown in his first matchup against the Jets earlier this season. Allen should be able to run all over this defense and find the end zone at least once along the way.
