Mavericks PG Luka Doncic is set to be re-evaluated in one month after suffering a left calf strain in Dallas’ Christmas Day loss to the Timberwolves, per Shams Charania of ESPN.
While this is of course a massive blow to the Mavs, they are 7-2 without their superstar in the lineup this year. Doncic is obviously irreplacable, but his vacated usage must go somewhere. Jaden Hardy sees the biggest bump sans Doncic, but he has not been in the rotation of late. Kyrie Irving will be the one doing most of the heavy lifting, as he sees a 3.8% usage increase with the Slovenian off the floor.
We have seen Jason Kidd go a few different ways this year when Doncic has been out, starting both Spencer Dinwiddie and Quentin Grimes. It remains to be seen who he will lean on over this next month, but it’s of course subject to change on a nightly basis.
