Is Kendre Miller a must-start vs. the Packers if Alvin Kamara is injured?

Alvin Kamara exited Sunday’s loss to the Commanders with a groin injury and Saints head coach Darren Rizzi told the media Monday that Kamara is dealing with “a groin abductor type of situation” and that the back will undergo further testing. Now, on Thursday, Rizzi told the media that Kamara’s injury is “more significant than we initially thought” and ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting Kamara could miss the rest of the season.

If Kamara is out this Monday vs. the Packers as expected, Kendre Miller will be the next man up for New Orleans and the second-year player would be in line for a large workload. Miller was the only Saints running back other than Kamara to touch the ball this past Sunday vs. Washington and with Kamara unavailable for the fourth quarter of the contest, Miller saw eight carries in the final frame, including two red-zone rushes.

Miller is averaging a strong 4.6 YPC this season and he is a capable pass catcher, catching 75% of his targets and averaging 9.8 YPR for his career.

15-20 touches for Miller on Monday is a realistic expectation and while calling him a “must-start” is aggressive, Miller would have solid upside based on this heavy volume despite this being a subpar matchup vs. a Packers defense that is giving up the eighth-fewest yards per rush this season (4.2).
