The PGA TOUR heads to Nassau, Bahamas this week for the Hero World Challenge. Albany Golf Course will be the host, and measures as a 7,449-yard par 72 with Bermuda grass greens.
We have an extremely small 20-man, no-cut event on tap this week, with Scottie Scheffler leading the way at the top.
Below I have outlined my favorite bet for the week.
Scottie Scheffler to win (+220)
This seems like the biggest cop-out selection of all time, picking the overwhelming 2/1 favorite to win a golf tournament. However, I just cannot bring myself in good conscious to back anyone else besides the World No. 1 this week. Scheffler at multiple times this past season was +360 to win full-field, 120+ player tournaments. You’re telling me I can now get him to win an event with only 19 other golfers in attendance at more than half those odds? I’m sorry, I am going to take that every single time.
Scheffler has played the Hero each of past three seasons, and in those starts he’s finished first, second and second, because of course he has. If it’s one thing we know about Scheffler, it’s that he wins repeatedly at Scheffler tracks. Go take a look at his record at Augusta, Bay Hill, TPC Sawgrass and TPC Scottsdale and let me know what you find.
Spoiler, eight of his 13 career PGA TOUR victories have come at those four courses. Technically, the Hero does not count as an official PGA TOUR event, but Scheffler will be looking to make it five courses where he’s posted two or more victories.
As for the numbers, he absolutely laps this field in every way, ranking No. 1 over the past 50 rounds in SG: Tee-to-Green, SG: Off-the-Tee, SG: Approach, BOB% and bogey avoidance.
The top of the board this week all boasts serious question marks. Patrick Cantlay and Justin Thomas each have not won since 2022, while Ludvig Aberg is making just his second start post knee surgery. After that the pickings get pretty slim, and it’s truly hard to envision any of the rest out-dueling Scheffler for four rounds on a course he routinely dominates.
If Scheffler is within one-to-two strokes of the lead after Thursday, he might be even money to win this tournament. He’s the only bet this week.
