What happened to Andre Drummond? Live injury updates for 76ers vs. Pistons

Updated:

By: Sean Barnard

The injury woes continue for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Just 3:33 of game time into the Philadelphia 76ers’ matchup with the Detroit Pistons, Andre Drummond came down on an opponent and rolled his ankle. The 6-foot-11 center was unable to put any weight on his ankle and was helped to the locker room by teammates and trainers.

Drummond has been forced into the starting center roll for the Sixers amid the continued injury issues for Joel Embiid. The veteran has averaged 8.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game across his 21.4 minutes of play entering tonight.

More updates to come as provided.

UPDATE 7:43 PM EST: Following the first quarter, Sixers PR announced that Andre Drummond would not return due to a right ankle sprain.

UPDATE: December 1st 10:57 AM:

Following the Philadelphia 76ers 111-96 victory over the Detroit Pistons, Nick Nurse spoke to reporters with a fairly optimistic view on Drummond’s status.

“They did all the X-rays and stuff, and it is just a sprain,” Nurse told the media. “So there’s nothing else there. I mean, he’s going to be in a boot, I’d say a minute.”

Another injury is the last thing the Sixers needed as they attempt to dig out of the 4-14 hole they have created for themselves to start the season. In Drummond’s absence, Nurse elected to give more minutes to some of the younger players who played with a spark that benefitted the Sixers greatly.

K.J. Martin played some increased minutes as the small-ball center and recorded 19 points, six rebounds, and three assists off the bench. Ricky Council IV was utilized similarly and ended with 17 points, five rebounds, one block, and one steal. Second-round pick Adem Bona also saw the most opportunity thus far in his professional career, ending with four points, five rebounds, and three blocks in 20 minutes of play.

There will be a more concrete diagnosis regarding Andre Drummond in the coming days. However, there was some relief from Nick Nurse at the press conference regarding his outlook. The head coach also joked that the Sixers “broke even” in regards to injury as Paul George returned from a three-game absence for the victory over the Pistons.

Injuries will continue to be a noteworthy story regarding this Sixers team. Joel Embiid remains on the injury report due to his left knee troubles with an unclear timeline for when he will return to the floor as well.
