India was selected by the Cincinnati Reds with the fifth overall pick in the 2018 MLB draft. He made it to the Show three years later and immediately made an impact, slashing .269/.376/.459 with an 11.3% walk rate, 22.3% strikeout rate and .190 ISO in 631 plate appearances. He finished with 21 home runs, 98 runs, 69 RBI and 12 stolen bases.
Unfortunately, injuries derailed the following season and he eventually settled into being a .240-ish hitter with a .150 ISO, 15 homers and 13 stolen bases. The plate discipline was excellent, though, as the walk rate was in the 10% range while the strikeout rate was around 20%.
On Friday, the Reds traded him and Joey Wiemer to the Kansas City Royals for RHP Brady Singer.
India will likely be the leadoff hitter for the Royals, making the top of the lineup potent with Bobby Witt Jr., Vinnie Pasquantino and Salvador Perez slotted behind him.
Singer was the number four pitcher for the Royals behind Cole Ragans, Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha. He was drafted by the Royals with the 18th overall pick in the 2018 MLB draft.
Singer is a solid innings-eater, throwing at least 150 innings in each of the last three seasons while posting a sub-4 FIP in two of those. He only averages around 92 mph on the fastball and the K/9 is around 8.0. He doesn’t walk many batters and has been relatively good at keeping the ball in the yard, but moving from Kauffman Stadium to Great American Ball Park is a huge downgrade.
