The Los Angeles Chargers are one of the most intriguing teams in the NFL this season. Coming off a 5-13 campaign in 2023, they hired Jim Harbaugh to step in as head coach and parted ways with their three top skill-position players in Keenan Allen, Austin Ekeler, and Justin Herbert.
The turnaround which has transpired over the past several months is one for the history books and a true testament to the impact of team culture. The Chargers sit 6-3 through their first nine games and are on track for a playoff spot.
This week, they face the NFL’s unluckiest team, the 4-5 Cincinnati Bengals, on Sunday Night Football. Here’s the top props for Chargers halfback J.K. Dobbins in that matchup on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Over 55.5 Rush Yards (-115 odds)
Look, Dobbins isn’t exactly a big name like Saquon Barkley or Christian McCaffrey. Many people faded him before this season due to the major injuries he’s suffered in the past. And yet somehow, he bounced back and is still producing.
The over on Dobbins’ rushing yards line is a volume play. The halfback is not a particularly efficient runner — he’s averaging 4.8 yards per carry, but has finished six games with a mark below 4.0 yards per attempt. However, Dobbins has received at least 14 carries in all but one game, so he sees a solid workload. Despite his middling efficiency, he’s a key cog in one of the NFL’s most run-happy offenses, which ranks ninth in both rush attempts and yards per game.
The Bengals, meanwhile, aren’t an inspiring defense. They fall 17th in the NFL with 127.3 rushing yards allowed per outing. They’re also 23rd in EPA/rush with a -0.06 mark. Dobbins has gone over 55.5 yards five times this season, and it’s very possible he does it again on Sunday Night Football.
J.K. Dobbins Anytime TD Scorer (-110 odds)
Again, the Bengals defense is a positive matchup for almost anyone. They allow 3.2 touchdowns per game, which ranks 30th among all teams. They also surrender 1.3 rushing TDs per contest, good for 28th in the league.
As mentioned earlier, Dobbins is a key cog in the Chargers offense. Running the ball is their specialty and Harbaugh loves to play ball control football. While the passing offense has taken strides in recent weeks, it’s still a good bet that Dobbins will get an opportunity to cross the goal line on the national stage. He’s scored in five of his appearances this season, with six total TDs to his name. There’s a good chance he adds another tonight.
