On Friday, November 15, the highly anticipated boxing event between Mike “Iron” Tyson and Jake “The Problem Child” Paul will take place at AT&T Stadium. This spectacle will air live on Netflix, the network’s first combat sports event broadcast on its platform.

This is a professional heavyweight eight-round bout. Although it is a sanctioned fight, they aren’t using a traditional rule set. Each round will be two minutes instead of the usual three-minute rounds for men’s fights. Tyson and Paul will wear 14-ounce gloves instead of the standard 10-ounce gloves.

Tyson was initially scheduled to face Paul on July 20. The date was moved after Tyson suffered an ulcer flareup. Tyson said in the Netflix pre-fight documentary that he threw up blood and lost 26 pounds.

This is Tyson’s first professional boxing fight since he fought Kevin McBride in 2005. Tyson lost that fight and hasn’t won a pro fight since he beat Clifford Etienne in 2003. Since then, Tyson has competed in two exhibition bouts, one in 2006 against Corey Sanders and more recently against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020.

Paul, 27, previously entered the spotlight as an influencer and YouTuber. But in 2020, Paul began his boxing journey. Paul has fought a more challenging and more experienced opponent in each fight. He started facing a fellow influencer, AnEsonGib, and former NBA player Nate Robinson. After knocking both guys out in the first two rounds, Paul moved on to fight combat sports athletes. With each fight, Paul has continued to gain experience and improve his boxing skills.

Even though he started only four years ago, Paul’s boxing accomplishments are incredible. He has defeated two former UFC champions, Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva. Paul also beat former Bellator and ONE Championship welterweight champion Ben Askren and BKFC King of Violence champion Mike Perry.

This challenge is unlike any other for Paul. Yes, Tyson is 58 years old and cannot move like he once could. But Tyson still has legitimate power in both hands and will still be a dangerous opponent when that bell rings. During his boxing career, Paul has fought at 185 pounds and 205 pounds. He has never competed at heavyweight before.

Even though Tyson may have a power advantage, Paul can use his quickness and volume to out-strike him. Paul has had a size edge against his previous opponents. Even though this contest is at a heavier weight, he is still taller (6’1″ vs. 5’10”) and has a more significant reach (76″ vs. 71″) than Tyson does. When Tyson was in his prime, he was a smaller heavyweight, but that didn’t stop him from dominating opponents. However, unlike his previous contests, I think the size differences will play a significant role in this fight.

Netflix isn’t just debuting with a fascinating main event. The co-main event features a rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano for the Undisputed Women’s Super Lightweight titles. The first fight between Taylor and Serrano occurred in April 2022 and headlined a massive event at Madison Square Garden. Taylor won that fight by a very close split decision. That first fight was one of the best fights in 2022. This is the biggest fight in women’s boxing.

This card features seven fights, with action beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET. The fights will air on Netflix and are included in regular subscriptions, not PPV. Paul is the favorite at -210, while Tyson is the +170 underdog on DraftKings Sportsbook.
