We’ve seen quite a few mutants show up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in recent years, but we’re still waiting for the X-Men to join the party in full.
Well, the path to the X-Men’s full arrival just got a bit clearer. Marvel Entertainment’s big boss, Kevin Feige, just provided some insight at D23 Brazil.
“When we were preparing for Avengers: Endgame years ago, it was a matter of getting to the grand finale of our narrative, and then we had to start all over again after that,” Feige told the Brazilian publication Omelete. “This time, on the road to Secret Wars, we already know very well what the story will be up until then and after that. The X-Men are an important part of the future.”
Avengers: Secret Wars is on a trajectory to be released in May of 2027. Still some time to wait.
But, there are other ways X-Men fans can get their fill.
X-Men in What If…?
While What If…? crossed into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, that isn’t exactly MCU proper. Regardless, it’s going to give Marvel fans their first look at Storm.
At the same D23 Brazil event, it was revealed that Storm will appear in Season 3 of the animated show. As if that wasn’t enough: She will be wielding Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir.
Where have we seen mutants in the MCU?
Here’s a quick list of MCU live-action shows and movies that have featured a mutant in some capacity:
- Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (Professor Charles Xavier)
- Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel)
- The Marvels (Khan and Beast)
- She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (Mr. Immortal)
- Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (Namor)
- Deadpool & Wolverine (A lot of mutants)
Also, it’s worth noting that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were originally mutants in the comics. That’s since been changed, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t change again.
What non-Marvel Cinematic Universe X-Men stuff is there to watch?
There’s a plethora of non-MCU X-Men movies that were produced by Fox that are now available on Disney+. Of that bunch, the best are Logan, X2 and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
But the best X-Men stories can be found in X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men ‘97, the latter of which has a new season coming. (That new season seems to be expected in 2026, although there’s been nothing official.)
