Raheem Mostert has had quite the NFL career. He went undrafted in the 2015 NFL Draft and has played for eight teams. Something about that 4.43 40-speed enticed.
It wasn’t until his fifth season when he latched on with Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco that Mostert was given an opportunity. He rushed 137 times for 772 yards and eight touchdowns. The following season, Mostert rushed 104 times for 521 yards and two touchdowns.
But injuries derailed his career.
At the age of 30, he latched on with the Miami Dolphins and rushed 181 times for 891 yards and three touchdowns. The following season, he broke fantasy football with 18 touchdowns on 209 rushes and 1,012 yards, as the Mike McDaniel offense with Tyreek Hill and Tua Tagovailoa created massive seams in opposing defenses and countless scoring opportunities.
But the injury bug struck again this season, causing him to miss three games.
In the season opener, Mostert received 44% of the snaps while De’Von Achane got 52%. In the three games coming out of the bye, Mostert has garnered 33%, 46% and 23% of the snaps, while Achane has been in 58%, 58% and 69%.
While Achane has been a PPR beast due to his targets and production in the passing game, there was a sliver of hope that Mostert could still get some touchdown scoring opportunities in the red zone. In Week 8, Mostert received five red zone opportunities, but last week, Mostert had only one while Achane received a whopping seven.
Start or sit? Sit.
Mostert could run in a touchdown or two, since he will play around 30% of the snaps. Maybe Achane scampers for 40 yards to the three-yard line, then needs a breather so Mostert comes in. That said, what once used to be close to a 50/50 split has now evolved into a 70/30 role for Achane. Unless you have no other options, I’d go with someone else.
