After a 1-4 start, the Rams have won three consecutive contests and are vying for the NFC West crown. Even with superstar pass catchers Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua back in the fold, veteran Demarcus Robinson stole the headlines Sunday and helped propel Los Angeles to a crucial overtime victory in Seattle. Is this performance indicative of a budding trend or a fluke to ignore?
Is Demarcus Robinson worth adding?
It’s important to note that Nacua got ejected from the contest late in the first half after throwing a punch at Seahawks linebacker Tyrel Dodson. Before getting tossed, Nacua had four targets but could only corral one for a mere 11 yards. Robinson stepped in as the number-two option behind Kupp and had a career afternoon. The 30-year-old reeled in six receptions for 94 yards and a pair of scores. One of his trips into the red zone was the game’s final play, an unreal one-hand walk-off touchdown to secure the win.
The ninth-year pro is playing 88% of snaps, thanks to injuries ahead of him on the depth chart and Sean McVay’s love of 11 personnel. Outside of his recent success crossing the goalline, Robinson was off to a standard campaign. He’s only surpassed 50 yards twice on the season, and Sunday was his only outing with more than five catches. He’s primarily a complimentary piece who can step up when needed.
It’s vital not to overrate this outlier showing and keep expectations realistic. Even with an electric aerial attack, Robinson’s ceiling totally depends on his teammates’ health. If Kupp and Nacua are in the lineup, Robinson is a fringe flex play in particular matchups or a viable handcuff on the bench. He has little DFS relevance going forward unless his assigned salary is too low to pass up. You should only consider his services in deeper formats or if this fantastic sample size stretches over a few more weeks.
