While its early in the season, Doncic’s role as a playmaker has decreased significantly. Currently, the Slovenian is handling a 29.9% assist rate, which is the lowest rate he has seen since his rookie season and a massive drop from the 44.3% rate he saw a year ago.
Furthermore, Doncic’s potential assists have dropped to 14.5 per game, compared to 16.9 last season. As a result, Doncic is averaging only seven assists per game this season — also his lowest average since his rookie season — and he has yet to go over eight assists in any of his first four starts.
Doncic’s matchup also isn’t ideal, with the Rockets ranking 10th in defensive efficiency and 27th in pace. This assist prop is just too high for the Doncic right now and if this season’s trends continue, he should go under this line.
