While it might not seem like it from a quick glance at the box score, Tyrone Tracy Jr. had a big week last Sunday against the Eagles. Though the rookie running back was held to just 32 scrimmage yards on nine touches in a 28-3 loss, Tracy’s stat line said way more about the Giants’ overall performance than his own role. He was, for all intents and purposes, the bell cow back for New York.
It’s a result that wasn’t necessarily a lock entering Week 7. Tracy had produced in two straight contests with teammate Devin Singletary sidelined due to injury — he averaged 19.9 FPTS per game in this span — yet the Giants’ backfield was back to full health with the Eagles in town. However, little changed for Tracy with Singletary available. He ended the game with more carries, more targets and a commanding 67.2% snap share. He was the RB1.
The underwhelming results were simply a product of a terrible overall environment. New York managed only 119 yards of total offense versus Philadelphia and, due to an early two-score deficit, the Giants also threw the ball on a whopping 67.3% of their offensive plays. It’s a script that I don’t foresee happening to quite the same effect on Monday Night Football, as the Steelers are a run-heavy team that generally has played in low-scoring contests so far this season.
That said, Pittsburgh does not present a soft matchup for Tracy to bounce-back in. The Steelers have allowed the eighth-fewest FPTS per game to opposing running backs and, by DVOA, Pittsburgh’s defense is a top 10 unit in the NFL.
Still, if Tracy is going to continue to get the workload of a featured back, he’s going to be at least a plug-and-play RB2 in season-long each and every week. When it comes to DFS, Tracy is of particular interest this evening. In the NFL Showdown $1.25M Monday Night Showdown [$300K to 1st] (NYG @ PIT) contest on DraftKings, Tracy’s price tag is a microscopic $4,400 — exactly $4,000 cheaper than the aforementioned Singletary. Not only is that insane based upon the duo’s recent usage, it makes Tracy a very enticing and frugal option in the Captain’s slot.
