Etienne ($5,900; hamstring) missed last week’s win over the Patriots in London, but the back was deemed day-to-day by Jaguars’ HC Doug Pederson on Tuesday, giving Etienne a decent chance to suit this Sunday vs. the Packers.
The problem for Etienne is that he may have lost his starting job for good. With Etienne missing his first game of the season last week, Tank Bigsby ($6,300) rushed 26 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns (26.8 FPTS), marking the third time in the Jaguars’ last four games that he has rushed for at least 90 yards. Even with both Etienne and Bigsby available in Weeks 5 and 6, Bigsby saw more work than Etienne, logging 33% of the snaps and handling 55.6% of the Jags’ running back carries, compared to a 27.5% snap share and 25% carry rate for Etienne.
For the season, Bigsby is averaging 6.2 yards per carry – which ranks second only behind Derrick Henry – while Etienne is rushing for 4.1 yards per carry. On top of the far more effective Bigbsy likely leap-frogging Etienne on the depth chart, it’s hard to imagine the latter would see a large workload this Sunday even if he was still the lead back, he’s coming off a hamstring injury and he has dealt with many injuries already this season.
Bigsby should operate as the Jaguars’ lead rusher once again this Sunday. 15-20 touches is a reasonable expectation. His matchup isn’t great, with Green Bay giving up the ninth-fewest yards per rush (4.3), but the highly efficient Bigsby still needs to be started in your season-long leagues and he is a compelling DFS option who could get overlooked in this matchup. Bigsby ranks fourth among running backs in FPTS per touch this season (0.61) and has been a top-seven finisher at his position twice in the last three weeks.
