UPDATE Oct 21, 3:35 p.m.: According to Commanders HC Dan Quinn, QB Jayden Daniels (ribs) is considered “week-to-week,” and his practice availability for Week 8 is as of yet uncertain.
However, Quinn did say, “We’re hopeful he could play,” when asked about Daniels’s availability for the much-ballyhooed 4:25 p.m. ET game against fellow first-rounder Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
This designation confirms that Daniels’s status is just about as ambiguous as early reports suggested. He will be fine, but he’s not quite fine enough to be called “fine” yet. But the subtext, here, is all optimism for Daniels’s take-the-league-by-storm rookie season to continue as early as Week 8.
This is likely the last material bit of information we’re going to get before the practice participation reports roll in. Keep an eye out on DKNetwork throughout the week for nonstop coverage of Jayden Daniels’s injury status and potential injury impact.
UPDATE Oct 21, 9:40 a.m.: According to FOX Sports Insider Jordan Schultz, Commanders QB Jayden Daniels is set to get more tests on his ribs today (Monday) to determine the severity of the injury.
Word out of Commanders camp yesterday following their drubbing of the Carolina Panthers was mixed, yesterday, with regards to Daniels’ outlook. Some hand-waved it as a minor injury. He’s fine, etc.
Others, like backup QB Marcus Mariota, seemed to suggest that Daniels is going to miss at least some time. Though, at this time, it remains unclear whether Mariota had any material information on the situation, or if he was speaking more about practice participation.
We’ll provide updates on Daniels’s tests in this space. Fingers crossed.
UPDATE 5:43 p.m.: Jayden Daniels (ribs) will not return to today’s game between the Commanders and the Panthers. He spent most of the first half in the locker room with trainers and medical staff getting tests and treatment.
However, Daniels returned to the sidelines to begin the second half and offered a triumphant and reassuring wave to the crowd. Though he’s been ruled out, many suspect that it’s because the Commanders currently hold a 27-0 lead over the Carolina Panthers. It wouldn’t exactly make sense to risk their franchise quarterback on a game they have so firmly in hand.
DKNetwork will look to get more information on Daniels’s status from any and all postgame press conferences with players and coaches. We’ll provide updates here.
For now, however, it seems Commanders fans can breathe a tentative sigh of relief.
UPDATE 4:41 p.m.: According to the broadcast, Jayden Daniels (ribs) is currently undergoing X-Rays on his injured midsection.
As of now, backup QB Marcus Mariota is in for the Commanders. This is obviously a massive blow to a Commanders team whose offense has been utterly revitalized since Jayden Daniels took over the reigns. The Commanders are currently up 17-0 on the Panthers, and have a 4-2 record on the season.
So much of that can be credited to the rising tide that Daniels brought to the team’s ships.
If the team should release any updates midgame about the results of the X-Rays, we will certainly provide them here.
UPDATE 4:38 p.m.: Jayden Daniels (ribs) is officially questionable to return to the Commanders game against the Panthers.
We’ll provide more updates as the team releases them. For now, Daniels remains in the locker room.
Late in the first quarter of Sunday’s game between the Commanders and the Panthers, Jayden Daniels was last seen headed to the locker room. Trainers appeared to be looking at his midsection, but everything is speculation as of now.
Daniels remains in the tent while the Panthers are on offense. We’ll see if he comes back when Washington comes out next on offense.
We’ll release updates in this space as the team provides them.
