UPDATE: When Speaking to the media Monday, HC Kevin Stefanski said they are still gathering information on QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s ($4,700) finger and that he could miss Week 8 vs. the Ravens. If that is the case, Jameis Winston ($5,200) would be the next man up with Watson done for the year. Winston played 13 snaps after both Watson and Thompson-Robinson got hurt this past Sunday vs. the Bengals, and Winston completed five of his 11 passes for 67 yards and a touchdown in that limited time. If named the starter for Week 8, Winston would find himself in a strong matchup, with the Ravens allowing the fourth-most yards per pass this season (7.5).
UPDATE: Watson’s injury was confirmed to be a ruptured Achilles on Monday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. That means his season is over. In better news for the Browns, ESPN’s Brad Stainbrook reported that X-rays were negative on backup QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s finger. DTR could be the starter in Week 8 vs. the Ravens if he responds well to treatment and is able to throw the ball effectively.
UPDATE: After the game, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who is the presumptive starter with Deshaun Watson out, avoided a major finger injury. How he responds to treatment will determine if he’s able to play next week or if Jameis Winston will get a start while he recovers.
UPDATE: After Sunday’s game, coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed the initial diagnosis of a torn Achilles for Watson. Stefanski said, “That’s what it looks like.” If that is indeed the case, Watson’s season would likely be over. He would finish with just 1,020 passing yards and five touchdowns in six games and leave the Browns 1-6 in fourth place in the AFC North.
He was replaced by Dorian Thompson-Robinson ($4,000; 5.68 FPTS), who later left with a finger injury of his own. He was replaced by emergency QB Jameis Winston ($4,900; 8.68 FPTS), who threw for 67 yards and a touchdown.
Stay tuned to see who will start at QB for the Browns going forward. Next week, the Browns welcome the Ravens to Cleveland.
UPDATE: Watson has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday’s game vs. the Bengals and it is feared the quarterback has suffered a torn Achilles, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
In the first half of Sunday’s game vs. the Bengals, Watson went down with a non-contact injury that appeared to be him hurting his Achilles.
The quarterback has been carted off the field and Dorian Thompson-Robinson has entered the game at quarterback for Cleveland.
