The National League Championship Series is now set after the sixth-seeded New York Mets dispatched of the number-two seed Philadelphia Phillies in the divisional round, while the top-seeded Los Angeles Dodgers won Game 5 over the San Diego Padres on Friday to advance.
The Dodgers had the best regular season and therefore have home field advantage. Game 1 is in Los Angeles on Sunday at 8:15 pm ET. DK Sportsbook has the Dodgers -1.5 at +130. The Mets are -155 at +1.5. The O/U is 8 while the Dodgers are -170 on the moneyline.
As of Friday, October 11, DK Sportsbook has the Dodgers as favorites at -180 to win the series. The Mets are +150. Los Angeles is also the current favorite to win the World Series at +160. But they need to get past the Mets first. Let’s see how the two teams stack up.
The Dodgers were a juggernaut on offense this season, as they ranked first in the National League in home runs, ISO, SLG and wOBA. They were “only” second in runs scored, RBI, walk rate and OBP.
Against right-handed pitching, Los Angeles was first in home runs, runs scored, RBI, walk rate, ISO, OBP, SLG and wOBA. The Mets have two righties in the starting rotation: Kodai Senga and Luis Severino.
Against left-handed pitching, the Dodgers were first in home runs and SLG. They were third in runs scored, third in RBI, fourth in walk rate, second in ISO, third in OBP and second in wOBA. The Mets have two lefties in the starting rotation: Sean Manaea and Jose Quintana.
The Mets offense was fourth in the National League in home runs, fifth in runs scored and RBI. They were fourth in ISO, sixth in OBP and SLG, while posting the fifth-best wOBA.
Against right-handed pitching, New York was fourth in home runs, fifth in runs scored, fifth in RBI, sixth in ISO, eighth in OBP, sixth in SLG and sixth in wOBA. The Dodgers currently have three healthy starters, all righties: Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Jack Flaherty and Walker Buehler.
In terms of starting pitching for the Mets, Kodai Senga just returned from the injured list recently. He went two innings in his most recent outing, walking a batter and allowing a home run in two innings. He struck out three.
Luis Severino pitched 182 innings during the regular season, and they were mediocre at best. The K/9 was 7.96 and the FIP was 4.21.
Sean Manaea threw 181.2 innings during the regular season and posted a 9.12 K/9. The FIP was 3.83, and he did a decent job keeping the ball in the yard, producing a HR/9 of 1.04.
Jose Quintana averaged 90.8 mph on his fastball and produced a paltry 7.13 K/9 while the FIP was 4.56. Over his last six regular season starts, though, he did not allow a home run and the FIP was only 2.48. In two postseason starts, he threw 11 innings, struck out 11, walked three and did not allow an earned run.
For the Dodgers, Yoshinobu Yamamoto just returned from the 60-day IL on September 10. He recently locked down the Padres in Game 5 of the NLDS, going five innings, walking one and striking out two without allowing an earned run.
Since arriving in Los Angeles, Jack Flahery pitched 55.1 innings and posted a 4.16 FIP. The K/9 was 9.92 but the HR/9 was 1.46.
Walker Buehler was terrible during the regular season. The K/9 was only 7.65 and he allowed 1.91 HR/9. The FIP was 5.54. In five playoff innings, he allowed a 6.37 FIP.
In terms of bullpens, the Mets posted the highest K/9 but also had the third-highest BB/9. They were 12th in FIP. The Dodgers pen was 21st in K/9, 13th in BB/9 and 21st in FIP. They were huge in Games 4 and 5 during the NLDS, though, as they threw 11.2 shutout innings while striking out 12.
New York was 46-35 at home and 43-38 on the road. Los Angeles was 52-29 at home and 46-35 on the road.
The two teams played six times during the regular season with the Dodgers winning four, but all six games were played before Grimace did his thing. Interestingly, the two losses were at home.
