NFL Week 6 Start or Sit: Trey Sermon

NFL Week 6 Start or Sit: Trey Sermon

Updated:

By: Alex Hunter

Jonathan Taylor ($7,500; ankle) missed Week 5 and is trending towards missing Week 6, with the back not practicing this week, as of Wednesday. Trey Sermon ($6,000; collarbone) also didn’t practice Wednesday, but feels more likely play, as Taylor was a rumored IR candidate last week with the ankle injury.

With Taylor inactive last Sunday vs. the Jaguars, Sermon got the start for the Colts and rushed for 38 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. He also caught all six of his targets for 25 yards (18.3 FPTS). Sermon logged 58.6% of the snaps and he handled 66.7% of Indianapolis’ running back carries, including a noteworthy five red zone attempts. Sermon also ran a route on 34% of his team’s drop backs and saw a target on 35% of those routes, including two red zone targets.

Racking up 16 touches and garnering seven red zone opportunities is terrific, and while maintaining that type of high-leverage usage will be a difficult task, especially if Anthony Richardson ($6,000; oblique) returns, Sermon should be in line for at least 15 touches vs. the Titans if he is active and Taylor remains sidelined. Sermon hasn’t been efficient as a runner, averaging only 3.3 yards per carry this season, but his large workload trumps any efficiency concerns, especially when you factor in that this is a plus spot, with as Tennessee the 12th-worst graded defense on PFF.

All in all, if Sermon plays and Taylor remains unavailable, Sermon will be a must-start for both season-long and DFS this Sunday.
