Jets have to trade for Davante Adams

The Jets have scored the exact number of points (93) through five games this year with Aaron Rodgers that they did last year with Zach Wilson. You bring Rodgers in to be the difference-maker, yet he was the reason they lost Sunday.

Look at Garrett Wilson. Thirteen catches on 22 targets, and you only have 101 yards? That’s the problem. The receivers and Rodgers are not on the same page.

As great as he is, I think there’s a reason Rodgers wanted to get Aaron Lazard and Randall Cobb, all these guys that he’s played with before. They see the game the way that he sees it, and he needs them to be on the same page.

You look at guys like Tom Brady, who won with a million different receivers, and Patrick Mahomes, who’s now dealing with injuries and trying to get on the same page with a bunch of different guys and had a terrible receiver corps last year but still won the Super Bowl. Rodgers needs to play a certain way. If you don’t play that way, the results aren’t there.

That’s why I think they’re going to go get Davante Adams. They have to at this point. They have ceded control of the entire organization to this guy. They can’t go halfway now.

Buffalo’s spiral is concerning

What has happened to the league MVP of the first three weeks in Josh Allen? What’s the problem with the offense that these defenses can so glaringly figure it out after looking at tape from the first three weeks?

The other thing for me: Situational football and game management are the big things that win games, and the Bills failed across the board Sunday.

The game was tied at 20 with very little time left. Why do you throw it three straight times when the game is tied inside your five-yard line. What are you doing?

By throwing three straight incompletions, they basically ceded a chance to win the game to the Houston Texans. If you run the ball there, the Texans have to use their timeouts. The Texans might not have even used their timeouts. But by making the decision to throw it three straight times, inside your five-yard line, you didn’t give the punter room to make a full kick. If he makes a full kick, maybe they don’t get that return and maybe they don’t have a chance for a field goal.

This was a failure down the line from Sean McDermott and Joe Brady. At some point, McDermott has to get on his headset and say “What are we doing? Run the ball. Give our punter a chance and make them burn a timeout, so they can’t potentially kick a game-winning football.”

That was a situational football failure at the highest level.

Baltimore is taking control

The Ravens are doing something remarkable. They have out-rushed their first five opponents by 100 yards in each game. Here’s the list of times that’s happened in the history of the NFL before this season:

  • Never

The Ravens know what they are now. Barring injury, they might be a real challenge with the way they can run the ball.

Caleb Williams has arrived

That was a fantastic game from Williams.

You look at his completion percentage on +20-yard throws through the first four games, it was atrocious. Sunday, he had almost a perfect rating on 20-yard throws.

Big plays to D.J. Moore. Big plays to Cole Kmet. The progress you’re seeing is exactly what you want if you’re the Bears.

I get who they were playing. I understand that. But, a good team beats up on a bad team. You want to see a quarterback do the kind of things that he did against that team.

To me, this whole season has been, “Yeah, Caleb Williams, but look at Jayden Daniels.” You saw the first response from Caleb Williams on Sunday. That should be very comforting to the Chicago fan base. That’s what you expect. That’s what you want to see from a guy taken No. 1 overall with the weapons that he has.

The Bears have a winning record, and that No. 1 pick is finally looking like a No. 1 pick.
