In Week 5, the Giants were heavy underdogs on the road in Seattle, but they pulled off the upset win despite being without their top running back and wide receiver. Rookie Tyrone Tracy stepped up with a huge game in relief of Devin Singletary (groin) and forced his way into the discussion as a piece of the Giants’ backfield and fantasy football lineups going forward.
Tracy racked up 129 rushing yards on his 18 attempts and caught one of two targets for one receiving yard. He didn’t get into the end zone but had a huge game and impressed almost every time he had the ball.
Singletary was playing about 70% of the snaps when he was healthy and was solid, but he didn’t show as much sizzle or upside as Tracy flashed. He may not be able to hold off Tracy after the rookie’s big performance.
Tracy only played 20% of snaps in Week 1 and was already eating into Singletary’s work with a 30% share in Week 3 and a 25% share in Week 4. He played 63% of snaps in Week 5, while Singletary was out, and took 82% of the backfield carries. Eric Gray did get more chances in the red zone, but Tracy looked more dynamic across the board.
Even if Singletary is able to play through his questionable tag for Sunday Night Football, Tracy should still be very involved. The fifth-round pick is a converted wide receiver, so it’s a little ironic that he mostly came off the field on third downs last week. That may have been more a function of the team trying to limit his workload. He has the skills to definitely serve as the third-down and receiving back or to thrive as an early-down option.
New York is a 3.5-point home underdog against Cincinnati with the over/under set at 48.5. Cincinnati has allowed five running back touchdowns through their first five games while giving up an average of 113 rushing yards and 20 receiving yards to the position, as well.
With such a good matchup, Tracy would definitely be an RB2 and flex option if Singletary is out. Even if “The Motor” is back, Tracy would be a fringe option and possibly a great DFS play.
