Week 5 was full of dramatic games with wild touchdowns and narrow margins of victory. The Fantasy Football Millionaire on DraftKings mirrored those results with the winning entry from dustpop eking out the top spot by less than half a point. By the narrowest of margins, this entry secured its “Crowning Moment” thanks to massive weeks from some select superstars and a few very valuable bargain plays.
Here’s what the top entry looked like:
In the last few weeks, the winning entries in The Millionaire typically had cheap quarterbacks, but not this week. Lamar Jackson ($7,500; 37.42 FPTS) was an expensive place to start the lineup at $7,500, but he did offer solid pay-up leverage at under 7% ownership.
Jackson and the Ravens were in a high-scoring, back-and-forth battle with the Bengals. Lamar finished with 348 passing yards, four touchdowns, and 55 rushing yards. While he finished just a few fantasy points behind Joe Burrow ($6,400; 37.78 FPTS) for the top QB mark on the main slate, he ultimately led his Ravens to the comeback win over Burrow’s Bengals in overtime.
With all the fireworks in that game, it isn’t surprising that the top point producer of the week came from that contest. This entry from dustpop included Ja’Marr Chase ($8,000; 44.3 FPTS), who finished with 10 catches on 12 targets for 193 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Chase took over the top spot in WR production this season with his monster game and passed the legend Jerry Rice with this long touchdown catch as the NFL main account pointed out:
Chase wasn’t the only Bengals WR that was a part of dustpop’s “Crowning Moment.” Tee Higgins ($6,000; 29.3 FPTS) also had two touchdowns in their loss to the Ravens and finished with 83 yards on nine catches.
The third receiver in dustpop’s entry was Terry McLaurin ($6,100; 17.4 FPTS), who didn’t find the end zone but still had a huge week as the Commanders continued to look very impressive with rookie Jayden Daniels ($6,800; 20.72 FPTS) under center. McLaurin only had four catches but still managed to post 112 yards as the Commanders cruised past Cleveland.
All three of these receivers are expensive plays, so dustpop had to find a spot to save salary and still get a huge game. With only 4.6% ownership, Darius Slayton ($3,900; 29.2 FPTS) was a key part of this week’s “Crowning Moment.” He was the lowest-owned player in the winning entry and went off for a massive week while filling in for Malik Nabers (concussion) against the Seahawks.
I had Slayton in my fantasy football sleepers at wide receiver on Saturday, and he delivered a huge game, catching eight of 11 targets for 122 yards and a touchdown in the Giants’ upset win in Seattle.
Slayton was the fourth highest-scoring WR on the main slate and cost under $4,000, making him one of the keys to success this week.
In the backfield, the winning entry went a little more chalky with midrange options Chuba Hubbard ($6,100; 18.5 FPTS) and D’Andre Swift ($5,700; 20 FPTS). Both were owned between 15%-to-20% and both turned in solid efforts with rushing touchdowns.
The highest ownership of any player in the winning entry was Tucker Kraft ($3,500; 24.8 FPTS), who was the highest-scoring tight end for a second straight week. Kraft was my top fantasy football sleeper tight end and continued his fantasy football emergence with a pair of touchdowns against the Rams.
Kraft had 88 yards on the day including this stiff-arm touchdown, which gave the Packers the lead they would never relinquish in their victory over Los Angeles.
In such a narrow victory, dustpop needed a big game from the DST spot as well. The Broncos DST ($2,900; 16 FPTS) got the job done against the visiting Raiders with three sacks and three interceptions. They also produced a 100-yard pick-six while wearing their awesome “Orange Crush” throwbacks. Star QB Patrick Surtain II broke down his highlight for the Broncos’ social media account:
With the Broncos DST and Slayton in the late game, dustpop’s “Crowning Moment” wasn’t locked up until all the games went final, but they ended up pulling out the thrilling Milly Maker victory in Week 5 to claim the huge $1,000,000 top prize.
