If David Njoku starts, should you play him in Week 4?

David Njoku returned to practice on Thursday in a limited capacity. Njoku injured his ankle against the Jacksonville Jaguars during Week 1 and has missed the previous two games.

Njoku caught four passes for 44 yards before getting hurt three weeks ago. Njoku is coming off the best season of his career in 2023 when he made the Pro Bowl. He totaled 882 yards and 81 receptions while having six touchdowns. Njoku’s 123 targets in 2023 were the third-most for a TE and top 25 among skill position players.

Throughout his eight-year stint in the NFL, Njoku has missed several games due to injuries. QB Deshaun Watson has struggled this season and has found little success since joining the Browns in 2022. But, if Njoku returns this week against the Raiders, Watson will have his most reliable target back in the fold. Dating back to last season, Njoku has caught at least six passes in four of his previous five games.

Njoku still has to prove he can log a full practice appearance before being able to return to the field in a game. If Njoku is playing this week and has a full workload, it is a no-brainer to start him in your fantasy lineups. Although he didn’t have a great performance in the first game of the season, Njoku has proven to be an above-average TE and he’s still capable of delivering big-time moments.
