Week 4 of the NFL season has arrived! The fantasy tight end landscape has already been turned upside down, so it’s time to take a deeper dive into that position.
Let’s break down my Week 4 start ’em, sit ’em fantasy football TE picks.
Start ‘Em: Dallas Goedert (Eagles) at Buccaneers
Goedert scored just 13.9 PPR points through the first two weeks, then dropped a monstrous 27-point performance against the Saints. As a result of that outing, he currently sits as TE1.
That’s how inconsistent the fantasy tight end landscape has been so far this season. With no true group of elite players at the position — at least from a production standpoint, obviously the talent is still there — we’re stuck playing catch-up. Goedert’s huge game against New Orleans makes him a virtual must-start this week in Tampa Bay.
The Bucs have actually been quite stingy against tight ends up to this point, but you likely can’t afford to be picky if Goedert’s on your roster. With AJ Brown (hamstring) and DeVonta Smith (concussion) both banged up and trending towards sitting as of Thursday, the veteran is primed to step in as Jalen Hurts’ primary target.
Sit ‘Em: Dalton Schultz (Texans) vs. Jaguars
I have now written up Schultz as a sit in Week 1 and Week 3. Not only did he fail to meet fantasy expectations in either game, but he also struggled in Week 2. At this point, the only logical reason you’re considering starting the veteran is because of his name value and the offense he plays in.
It’s not worth it.
The 28-year-old has received a very strong snap share through three weeks, but it hasn’t translated to production, as he’s racked up just seven catches for 48 yards. C.J. Stroud’s pecking order in the receiving corps has been established: Nico Collins is the guy and Stefon Diggs is the No. 2 option, while Schultz and Tank Dell are on the outside looking in. Until Schultz carves out a more sizable role in Houston’s passing attack, he shouldn’t make your starting lineup.

Start ‘Em: Cole Kmet (Bears) vs. Rams
The fantasy tight end landscape is a revolving circus that churns out unpredictable results on a weekly basis. All we can hope to do is play catch-up successfully, which will be the case with Kmet on Sunday.
After an underwhelming Week 1 performance, Kmet’s snap rate jumped all the way up to 77% in Chicago’s second game. In their Week 3 matchup with Indy, Kmet took over. The 25-year-old tight end caught a ridiculous 10 balls for 97 yards and a touchdown, emerging as Caleb Williams’ favorite target on the day.
This week, he’ll face off against a Rams defense that has been vulnerable against opposing tight ends. He almost certainly won’t rack up 25.7 PPR points again, but Kmet is a strong option at a weak fantasy position.
Sit ‘Em: Hunter Henry (Patriots) at 49ers
In the spirit of complete transparency, Henry was a confident start for me last week.
Then I watched one of the worst offensive line performances I have ever seen from the Patriots. Jacoby Brissett and Drake Maye were sacked a combined seven times — which feels too low — and pressured on virtually every snap. Play action wasn’t even an option, because the Jets’ pass rush was in the backfield by the time Brissett turned around.
As a result, there is absolutely no way I’m starting Henry against this elite 49ers defense in San Francisco Sunday. It has nothing to do with the actual player, who I believe is very talented. I just don’t see how Brissett is going to get him the ball on a consistent basis.
